Mahboob Sooltan Sohawon

sohawonProfessor Sohawon was born in Mauritius in 1955. He was educated at the College of Preceptors, London, the Mauritius Institute of Education (Teachers’ Diploma), the University of Mauritius (BEd Hons), the University of Bath, UK (MA in Education – Educational Management), the Oxford Centre for Excellence (Fellow) and European-American University (EdD in Educational Leadership and Management). He received his doctorate at a ceremony in London in 2011.

His long experience as an educationalist includes thirty years as an Education Officer in Mauritius. At the Islamic Cultural College, Port Louis, he was successively Head of the English Department, then Deputy Rector from 2005 to 2007, and Acting Rector in 2007. From 2008 he has been a part-time Lecturer (Leadership and Supervision) for Mauritius College of the Air (MCA) and Open University of Mauritius (OUM), and from 2010 has been Part-time MA lecturer (Leadership and Management) for University of Technology (UTM).

In addition, he has served as Officer-in Charge of Educational Administration and Management at the Mauritius Institute of Education (MIE) from 2009 to October 2012, and then Head of Educational Administration and Management at the Mauritius Institute of Education (MIE) from October 2012 to date. He was Assistant Lecturer and Lecturer at the Mauritius Institute of Education (MIE) from July 2007 to September 2012.

Currently he is Part-time MEd Lecturer (Leadership and Management) for Doha Academy of Tertiary Studies and Senior Lecturer from 2012 to date. He has had extensive responsibilities for programme co-ordination and dissertation supervision in Education at the graduate level for both Mauritian, Indian and UK universities. In addition, he has been Part-time MA in Education Lecturer and Module Tutor (Developing Leadership and Management in Education) for Middlesex University, UK, from 2013 to date, and was appointed the official link person with the Middlesex University for the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding with regards to the Master’s Programme in Educational Leadership in 2012.
